An Arizona toddler died in a scorching car where she was left for up to three hours as temperatures soared to nearly 100 degrees, according to a new report.

The 3-year-old girl was found in her father’s pickup truck in a Gilbert neighborhood shortly after noon, authorities told local station KHPO.

“He accidentally left her in his vehicle after dropping the other two girls off at school,” neighbor Judy Rott told the outlet.

He was watching the toddler while her mother was at work, according to the report.

By the time the father realized his mistake, two to three hours had passed and the outdoor temperature was approaching 100 degrees. The temperature inside the car could have easily reached between 130 and 172 degrees if it was in direct sunlight, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Our neighbor was sitting on the back porch and heard him scream,” Rott told the outlet. “She ran over, tried to give CPR because he had pulled her out of the car, taken her into the house. She got the neighbor across the street who’s a nurse. They both tried to revive her before paramedics got here but it didn’t work.”

The tot was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police will conduct an investigation to determine whether any arrests will be made or charges filed, according to the report.

Meanwhile, neighbors are doing all they can to support the family, Rott said.

“The whole neighborhood is saying prayers for them,” the neighbor told the station. “Our hearts go out to them and we’re there if they need us for anything.”
