An Army National Guardsman died in Kosovo in a non-combat incident on the Fourth of July, the Department of Defense said.
Pfc. Alexander Blake Klass, 20, of Willamina, Oregon, died Saturday at Camp Novo Selo, the Pentagon said in a press release on Monday.
The soldier was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry Reigment, 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Oregon National Guard.
He was in Kosovo as part of Operation Joint Guardian, also known as Kosovo Force, a NATO-led mission that’s maintained peace in the region since 1999.
Klass joined the National Guard in January 2019 as an infantryman, according to the Army Times, which also said he mobilized in January and was scheduled to return home from Kosovo in November.
The Defense Department did not offer further details about his death.
