Angry over problems at the pump, Juan Roman, 40, splashed gasoline on the floor of a Novato, Calif., gas station Saturday morning and then snatched a lighter off the counter, The Marin Independent Journal reported.
Chilling video of the incident published by KGO-TV shows the mustachioed man lighting a piece of paper on fire and chucking it on a gasoline-soaked floor mat.
The mat didn’t catch on fire and Roman fled in his pickup truck to a nearby Safeway station — where police cornered him.
After six hours of trying to get Roman to surrender, the suspect said he would — in exchange for cigarettes.
But police worried that Roman had gotten gasoline on him during his earlier outburst and that there was a fire hazard.
So they sent a vape pen instead.
Roman surrendered and was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of attempted arson and vandalism. Cops said he’d been having family issues.
