Less than one week after @BetoORourke announced he is running for president, an artist took his skills to the next level.

A giant #BETO2020 crop circle will be visible when landing to the Austin Airport

A famed so-called โ€œearth artistโ€ who backs Beto Oโ€™Rourke used sand, gravel and rocks to create a portrait of the Democratic presidential candidate that can be seen by thousands of passengers using the nearby Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

The massive artwork of Oโ€™Rourke โ€” which takes up almost two football fields โ€” was the creation of Stan Herd of Lawrence, Kansas, according to an Austin TV station KVUE.

โ€œWeโ€™re trying to tell the story of this amazing man from Texas making a difference in the national climate,โ€ Herd told the station.

โ€œItโ€™s kind of bringing community into an art effort, and thatโ€™s the artistโ€™s dream.โ€

Herd said materials for the project โ€” earth, gravel, sand, mulch and rock to add color and texture โ€” came from the site, about a mile and a half from the Texas airport.

โ€œWe try to get close to an airport to guarantee a closer audience,โ€ said Herd, who has been creating art for four decades using organic materials.

For his portrait of the former Texas lawmaker, he used another local product.

โ€œPecans are a big product in Texas,โ€ he said, referring to Oโ€™Rourkeโ€™s eyes. โ€œItโ€™s a nice brown color.โ€
