All 143 people on a plane that skidded off a runway and wound up in a Jacksonville, Fla. river were saved in a dramatic rescue — but their pets were not as lucky.
At least four cats and dogs were presumed dead in a flooded cargo hold Saturday, USA Today reported.
Officials said it’s possible there were more pets on the plane that hadn’t been checked in — but brought aboard by late arriving passengers.
The plane, from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was a chartered Boeing 737 carrying military personnel.
Only one passenger, a 3-month-old baby, was hospitalized, but only overnight Friday, for observation.
