An Australian man described the moment he witnessed the deaths of both his wife and daughter moments after the devastating Easter Sunday suicide attacks in Sri Lanka.
Sudesh Kolonne told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that he was outside of a church north of Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo when a bomb ripped through the building — killing his wife Manik Suriaaratchi and their 10-year-old daughter Alexendria.
“I heard a huge noise and I jumped into the church and I saw that my wife and my daughter were on the floor,” Kolonne told the network.
“I just saw my daughter on the floor and I tried to lift her up — she was already dead. And exactly the same, next my wife is there.”
The grieving father added that his family attended the St Sebastian’s Catholic Church “every Sunday” and had been excited to join the Easter mass.
The service, however, turned into carnage as a series of bombs ripped through a number of churches and luxury hotels in the country — killing at least 290 people and injuring 500.
Sri Lankan officials attributed the main attacks to seven suicide bombers from a local militant Muslim group.
