Australia’s largest state reported a record number of new daily COVID-19 infections.

New South Wales reported 466 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases on Saturday, according to The Associated Press.

The previous record, 390, had been reported on Friday, according to the report.

In response, New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian raised fines for breaking quarantine from $1,000 to $5,000 Australian dollars, according to the report, or about $3,700 American dollars.

Residents of Sydney, the capital of New South Wales, will be restricted to within five kilometers of home, or a little more than three miles, according to the report.

That’s half the previously allowed distance.

“We know that the lockdown, coupled with a strong, targeted vaccination program. is what is going to get us out of this dire situation,” Berejiklian said, according to the report.

Police and military will enforce the lockdown starting Sunday, according to the report.
