The reported abduction of an 8-month-old boy in San Antonio was staged to cover up “foul play,” police said.

Police Chief William McManus declined to indicate during a news conference Monday whether investigators believe the still-missing baby, King Jay Davila, is alive, saying only that the boy was not in a car that the baby’s father, Christopher Davila, 34, reported stolen from a convenience store after leaving the vehicle running and unlocked late Friday.

“This was not a kidnapping,” McManus told reporters. “This was a staged event.”

The woman who was spotted driving off with the car has been identified as Davila’s cousin, Angie Torres, 45, who was arrested on an unrelated robbery charge, McManus said.

Torres, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the San Antonio Express-News, stole razors from a Dollar General store and kicked an employee who tried to stop her on Sunday, two days after police say she staged the boy’s abduction with Davila.

Surveillance footage from the convenience store caught Torres walking down a street with a baby seat after the kidnapping, which was reported by Davila at about 7 p.m. Friday, according to the Express-News.

McManus said he couldn’t elaborate on details of the staged kidnapping, but stressed that investigators believe other witnesses could ultimately lead police to the boy’s whereabouts.

“We know that there’s more people out there who have information on this case,” McManus said. “We’ve gotten a lot of information from talking with different family members as the investigation has continued, but there’s one answer that we don’t have. And that is: Where is King Jay? That is what we’re trying to find out.”

The search for the boy continued Tuesday, police officials confirmed to The Post.

Christopher Davila, meanwhile, was released from custody on child endangerment charges after posting bond late Monday, WOAI reports.
