The baby boy who was ripped from his slain mother’s womb in Chicago is making major strides toward recovery, family members said at a press conference.

The newborn, named Yovani Yadiel Lopez, has recently been able to breathe without the help of a machine as he recuperates at Advocate Christ Medical Center following the horrific April incident that left his mother, 19-year-old Marlen Ochoa-Lopez, dead.

“It’s still a long way to go for the baby, but the baby is fighting and surviving,” Frank Avila, an attorney for Ochoa-Lopez’s husband, Yovani Lopez, told reporters Friday, according to Fox News.

Ochoa-Lopez, who was nine months pregnant at the time, was savagely strangled on April 23 after allegedly being lured to a Chicago home by the offer of free baby clothes on a Facebook group for moms.

The young mom’s body was found dumped in garbage behind the home on the city’s southwest side on May 15 — about three weeks after she was reported missing.

Clarisa Figueroa, 46, and her daughter Desiree Figueroa, 24, were slapped with murder charges in connection with the slaying, while Clarisa’s boyfriend, Piotr Bobak, 40, was charged with concealment of a crime.

Ochoa-Lopez’s baby suffered severe brain damage during the grisly incident and initially was taken to the hospital in grave condition.
