Sounds like this murder-for-hire plot was only half-baked.
Officials charged a Georgia bakery owner Thursday for allegedly orchestrating a violent hit on his business partner in order to gain control of their Woodstock store, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Ross Byrne, 54, was arrested at his pastry shop Thursday on charges including malice murder in the January 2014 stabbing death of Jerry Moore.
Prosecutors allege that Byrne started to conspire with a former employee, Johnathan Wheeler, to kill Moore after their partnership went south.
The bakery was reportedly struggling and Moore had drafted terms to end his involvement in the company before his death.
Byrne assumed full control over the business after Moore was found stabbed to death at his Cobb County home.
Wheeler was found guilty earlier this month for stabbing Moore than 30 times.
According to the indictment, Wheeler went to Byrne’s home after the grisly slaying, where he showered and changed into clean clothing. Officials claimed that the pair was in contact before, during and after the stabbing death.
“We always knew Ross was implicated in the whole thing, and once that conviction was solid, then we knew the DA would have to charge Ross,” Moore’s friend Randy Doolittle told the news station WSB-TV.
