Dozens of people at the California nightclub where a gunman launched a deadly attack may owe their lives to a hero who sprang into action when the bullets started flying.

Matt Wennerstrom told KABC he immediately recognized the sound of gunfire, grabbed a barstool and smashed a window with it to rescue as many people as he could.

“We probably pushed 30 or 35 people through that window,” said Wennerstrom, whose T-shirt was still streaked with blood.

“All I did was grab as many people as I could and pull them underneath the table until I heard a break in the shots, and then we got people out of there, as much as we could,” added Wennerstrom, who said he visits the Borderline Bar & Grill every week.
