A Florida vacation descended into tragedy when a shark reportedly bit a teen’s leg at the beach.

Cody High, 15, was on a road trip from San Angelo, Texas, with his family when they stopped in Cocoa Beach to take a dip in the ocean, news station WOFL reported.

The teen said he was swimming with his nieces and nephews around 5 p.m. when he was attacked by a 7-foot bull shark, according to the Brevard Times.

“I was about knee-deep when he got me, and I was walking back,” High told WOFL. “I didn’t see him at all.”

High said he felt a sensation similar to a “hand squeezing as hard as possible.” The shark had taken a bite out of his calf before swimming away.

“I saw blood everywhere, and I just knew something bad had happened,” High said. “People were crying, my mom was probably by far one of the more petrified ones. She was screaming, ‘Oh my god! What happened?'”

Emergency responders helped High to the boardwalk and then rushed him to a local hospital, where doctors said he received “too many stitches to count,” according to a GoFundMe page.

High was released from the hospital Monday but the terrifying incident has left him in a wheelchair.

A GoFundMe page was created to help with costs for rehabilitation and possibly another surgery.
