LUBEC, Maine — Beachgoers jumped into action and were working to save a 30-foot long basking shark that washed ashore in Maine.

WSCH-TV reports the shark washed up on the shore in Lubec Wednesday morning.

Beachgoers were seen tossing water over the animal as they tried to save it. Witnesses say the tide had begun to wash over the shark, but they didn’t expect it to survive.
