Bernie Sanders fired up a full house at Midtown’s Town Hall theater Friday, lambasting the GOP presidential candidates for ignoring key issues in their last debate.
“We are talking about the issues that matter to people right here. In a three-hour [debate] there was no discussion about wealth inequality, the need to end institutional racism,” the Democratic presidential candidate said as the capacity crowd of 1,495 cheered.
“The middle class is disappearing. We have 35 million living in poverty. Almost all the new wealth being created goes to the 1 percent.”
Supporters of the Brooklyn-born Vermont senator shelled out from $50 to $1,000 for tickets to the fund-raiser.
Sanders pushed his usual progressive themes on climate change, health care and college tuition costs but saved most of his vitriol for the participants in Wednesday’s Republican presidential debate on CNN.
“I couldn’t take it. The energy was leaving my body,” Sanders said as he described watching the debate.
Also speaking at the storied concert venue was actor Mark Ruffalo.
“People are looking for change,” the “Avengers” star said. “Now we find a man who has carried this change for decades.”
