Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday appointed his longtime adviser Ron Dermer to be Israel’s next ambassador to the United States.

The American-born Dermer, 42, will replace Michael Oren.

Israeli media speculated that Dermer, being a former Republican activist, might be at odds with President Obama. His close ties to the PM also give him the perception of being a credible envoy.
