Bitter taste of tax hike
WASHINGTON — President Obama wants to tax your blueberry vodka.
The administration’s new budget proposes to scrap a provision in current law that taxes flavored alcohol less than pure spirits.
The change would be a buzz-kill for a variety of cordials, schnapps, flavored vodkas and venerable brands like Southern Comfort that benefit from the 2.5 percent tax break.
The tax increase is estimated to bring in more than $100 million a year.
