A newly minted police officer drew on his own experiences to save the life of a choking infant in Arkansas.

Pottsville police officer Cody Hubbard, 23, recently answered a 911 call for a three-week-old infant who was choking on anti-gas drops. Hubbard hurried to the scene and promptly tapped the baby, who had started “to turn purple,” on the back to save his life.

Hubbard said he had experienced the same problem with his own daughter and knew what to do when he saw the baby, whose name is Grady.

“Whenever I rolled up on this call, anytime I deal with something that involves a child, I think about how the parents would want me to treat the child as if it was mine,” Hubbard told Fox and Friends Saturday.

Following the rescue, which was captured on Hubbard’s bodycam, Hubbard returned to his patrol car and said he burst into tears. He said that “it felt good” that things turned out well.

Hubbard is scheduled to receive a life-saving award later this month.
