The union representing US Border Patrol agents has accused the Biden administration of creating “anarchy” at the southern border after a shocking video showed more than 100 migrants rushing the southern border wall and breaking through razor wire to illegally enter the country.
“This is only going to get worse. It’s just the beginning,” the Border Patrol Union wrote online Thursday alongside the footage, captured exclusively by The Post, that showed the chaotic scene as migrants trampled agents in a frenzy to enter America.
“The anarchy Joe Biden and his radical leftist mob have unleashed on Americans is despicable,” it said.
A large group of migrants knocked down National Guard soldiers and rushed a border wall in El Paso, Texas, on March 21, 2024. James Breeden for NY PostThe union’s comments were echoed by several Republican lawmakers, including Rep. Scott DesJarlais of Tennessee, who said the president “must close the border IMMEDIATELY.”
“Please pray for the safety of the National Guardsmen, CBP agents and all those on the front lines of this crisis,” he wrote on X while sharing the video.
Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) threatened to upend the president’s budget proposal over the tumultuous scene.
“This is Joe Biden’s America,” Burchett wrote, vowing, “No Border, no Budget!”
The official House GOP X account also shared the video, writing: “Border security is national security.”
The migrants broke through a fence with razor wire. James Breeden for NY PostTexas Gov. Greg Abbott called the scene a “direct result of the unsustainable chaos President Biden has unleashed on the border” in a statement to The Post.
The chaos at the border crossing in El Paso, Texas, took place as members of the Lone Star State’s National Guard were attempting to divide nearly 600 migrants into smaller groups and separated women and children from adult males in the process.
Apparently outraged by this separation, one set of migrants, mostly single men, rushed the Texas troops.
A group of men with hoodies, gloves and winter jackets could then be seen pulling fencing away and dashing through the concertina wire as a group of five guards stood in a defensive formation to fill the gap.
The crowd of migrants ran past the Texas National Guard. James Breeden for NY PostThe guardsmen clutched their rifles and stood their ground in front of the migrants, but they were heavily outnumbered.
In the video, some of the intruders put their hands up in surrender, but others were able to scramble through, with some passing between the guards’ legs and knocking them out of the way.
The group then scrambled to the border gate and started to shout at guardsmen on the other side.
Fox News reporter Bill Melugin later wrote on X that there had been one arrest for assaulting a soldier. He added that more charges related to destruction of property and assault were likely, citing Border Patrol sources.
But the city of El Paso’s migrant dashboard showed 743 people had been released from custody and into the US on Thursday. They were either released on parole or to pursue asylum claims in accordance with Biden’s policies.
The migrants ran to another gate and begged the National Guard for help. James Breeden for NY PostThey have joined thousands of others who have descended on the Texas city, where between 2,000 and 2,500 migrants are being held in federal custody each night.
To deal with this surge, Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens said the agency needs more resources from the federal government and the ability to impose more “consequences” for migrants who cross the border.
“I’m talking about jail time,” he told CBS News Thursday.
“I’m talking about being removed from the country, and I’m talking about being banned from being able to come back, because you chose to come in the illegal way instead of the established lawful pathways that we set for you.”
But the Biden administration has hit back, noting that it was the Texas National Guard that got overrun and not Border Patrol agents.
“We are grateful for Border Patrol’s quick work to get the situation under control and apprehend the migrants,” a White House spokesman told The Post.
“When the former President told Congressional Republicans to block the bipartisan border security agreement – he said to blame him for it. Well he got his wish, and the result was chaos after Governor Abbott’s Operational Lone Star and razor wire were overrun yesterday,” the spokesman claimed.
He said he could not comment on specific cases, but vowed “anyone who does not have a legal basis to remain in the United States is promptly removed.”
