Boris Johnson will not be spending his summer holidays in Scotland after it was revealed Saturday how the British prime minister nearly drowned on the country’s west coast last year.

The visit to a remote cottage in Applecross on the north west coast of Scotland was also cut short last August for security reasons after the location was revealed, according to a report.

“He nearly drowned,” a government source told the Times of London. “He got swept away and found himself going further and further out.”

Sources disagreed on whether Johnson was attempting to paddleboard or canoe when he was swept out to sea although he managed to get himself back to shore.

“It could have been a catastrophe,” the source said.

Johnson’s two week holiday with wife Carrie, their son and dog Dilyn was also cut short when the Daily Mail published photographs of his rental cottage and social media users identified the location.
