A 13-year-old Massachusetts boy is being hailed as a hero after grabbing his 4-year-old sister and climbing out a window during an apparent murder-suicide inside their home.
Police said the youngster and his kid sister ran to a neighbor’s home for help late Tuesday while a man inside their Oxford home killed his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself, according to police and WBZ-TV.
“The 13-year-old is a pretty courageous young kid,” Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early said at a press briefing. “He took the 4-year-old in his arms, opened the window, ran out the window to a neighbor’s house.”
Early said a 3-year-old girl remained in the house until police arrived and was unharmed in the shooting shortly before 5:30 p.m.
Cops said the couple were the parents of two of the three children and said the third was from a previous relationship.
Police say in addition to the 13-year-old and 4-year-old escaping, another child, 3, was found unharmed at the scene. CBS Boston
Police are investigating the shooting deaths of a man and a woman in an Oxford, Massachusetts home. CBS BostonEarly said both the victim and the gunman called 911 simultaneously — with shots heard in the background during one of the calls.
Police have not determined what led to the fatal incident, and Early said there did not appear to be a history of police calls or disturbances at the home.
“They were a young couple just getting started in life,” one neighbor told WBZ. “Why did something like this happen?”
