A 14-year-old boy from Texas was killed when a tree fell onto his tent at a Boy Scout camp in Georgia, authorities said.
The teen, who was not identified pending family notification, died Monday afternoon after the tree toppled when a thunderstorm unexpectedly came through the Bert Adams Scout Camp, Boy Scout officials said in a statement obtained by The Post.
“This is a very difficult time for our Scouting family,” the statement by the Atlanta-area Council read. “We are sad to confirm the death of one of our Scouts following a weather-related incident at Bert Adams Scout Camp. We offer our deepest condolences to the victim and his family, and we will support them in any way that we can.”
Tracy Techau, the council’s chief executive, told WXIA that the teen was part of a group attending the campsite for a weeklong jamboree for Scouts through the South.
The boy was inside a tent with another Scout after receiving a weather alert to seek shelter due to approaching thunderstorms when a weakened tree crashed down, causing blunt force trauma to his head and chest, WXIA reported.
Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis told the Covington News that the victim was from Cypress, Texas.
