This costume was hard to stomach.
A 5-year-old Israeli boy who dressed up as a charity box for an early Purim carnival got a bit too into his role and started swallowing coins, according to reports.
A teacher discovered the boy had gulped down the shekels when he tapped him on the back in a Jerusalem classroom — and a coin shot out of his mouth like a slot machine, the local TV station Channel 2 News reported.
The coin-gulping kiddo coughed, vomited and was rushed to a hospital, where doctors discovered another coin trapped in his lungs. He was rushed into emergency surgery.
“[If] the boy didn’t make it to the hospital on time, this story could have ended with a tragedy,” said Doctor David Zlotnik, who treated the boy.
People dress up for Purim to celebrate escaping Haman, who planned to annihilate Jews during the Persian Empire. This year, the holiday begins on March 23.
