A 27-year-old man in Milwaukee was arrested after his pregnant girlfriend’s body was found stuffed in a suitcase, authorities said.

Homicide charges were filed Sunday against Quentin Neal in the deaths of 21-year-old Shannon Mani and her unborn child, news station WDJT reported.

Police discovered Mani, who was five months pregnant, dead Sunday in a storage locker leased by Neal.

Mani was reportedly covered with a garbage bag and her head, ankles and wrists were bound with duct tape.

Her parents reported the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student missing Friday when she failed to pick up her younger brother from school. The family also told authorities she never showed up to work.

Investigators retrieved a conversation from her Apple Watch that revealed that she intended to visit Neal’s apartment.

A search warrant was obtained for the boyfriend’s residence, where traces of blood allegedly were found inside the home.

During an interview with police, Neal allegedly admitted the couple got into a fight at the apartment, news station WITI reported.

“The defendant claimed that he showed [Mani] a gun that he had obtained for protection at which time the defendant alleged that [Mani] took the gun and a knife from the kitchen, then tried to pull the trigger but it didn’t go off because of the safety,” according to court documents.

Neal claimed he then shot her twice in the head, causing her to fall down the basement stairs, according to police. He said Mani attempted to attack him again, so he stabbed her with the knife.

No motive has been released, but Neal told police there was tension in the relationship because Mani’s parents didn’t approve of him.

Neal appeared in court Tuesday on charges of intentional homicide, possession of a firearm by a felon and intentional homicide of an unborn fetus.

He faces life in prison if convicted.
