Brian Laundrie’s remains found in Florida park, FBI says

By Jorge Fitz-Gibbon

North Port, Fla. – The FBI confirmed Thursday that remains found in a heavily wooded Florida park are those of missing fugitive Brian Laundrie, who had been the subject of a massive manhunt following the death of his girlfriend Gabby Petito.

“On October 21, 2021, a comparison of dental records confirmed that the human remains found at the T. Mabry Carlton Jr. Memorial Reserve and Myakkahatchee Creed Environmental Park are those of Brian Laundrie,” the agency said in a statement.

The remains were found about a 40-minute hike into the marshy park, where Laundrie went for a walk after leaving his parents’ home on Sept. 13, North Port police spokesman Josh Taylor told The Post Thursday.

The lingering questions Brian Laundrie’s parents must answer

So many questions, so few answers.

With the search for Brian Laundrie appearing to have reached a conclusion, the focus has turned back to his parents — who have said nothing publicly since their son became a person of interest in Gabby Petito’s disappearance last month.

Christopher, 62, and Roberta Laundrie, 55, were seen on Wednesday at the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, pointing out to authorities “a trail that Brian frequented,” the family’s lawyer, Steven Bertolino, told The Post.

New photos among the last of Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie together

By Jorge Fitz-Gibbon

New photos of Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie obtained by The Post show the young couple traipsing through Utah’s Arches National Park just weeks before Petito disappeared during their ill-fated cross-country trip.

The photos show the pair at the park’s “Delicate Arch” landmark on Aug. 10, just two days before they were pulled over by Moab, Utah, police outside the park after reports of a domestic incident involving the two.

“They stood out because they had the ‘van life’ look to them and I remember feeling envious because they seemed like enthusiasts,” the photographer wrote.

“In the first photo you see my wife and I at the top walking along the ridge with Brian and Gabby down below,” he said. “He’s wearing the woven hat.”

Brian Laundrie’s sister spotted for first time since human remains found

By Emily Crane

Brian Laundrie’s sister has been spotted for the first time since her fugitive brother’s backpack and notebook were discovered near human remains in a Florida park where authorities have spent weeks searching for him.

Cassie Laundrie was pictured Thursday morning with two cookies and her phone in her hand outside her Lakewood Ranch, Florida, home.

The sighting of Cassie came a day after the FBI revealed a backpack and notebook belonging to Brian Laundrie had been discovered at the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park.

Human remains were also found, but authorities stopped short of identifying them as Brian’s.

Cadaver dogs may find more remains in Florida park, experts say

By Yaron Steinbuch

Cadaver dogs could end up sniffing out more body parts at the Florida park where Brian Laundrie’s suspected remains were discovered, a search-and-rescue expert told The Post.

Michael Hadsell, president of the Peace River K9 Search and Rescue, said the dogs initially could not pick up any scent of decaying remains because parts of the reserve were still under several feet of water.

“The problem is people don’t understand that dogs are not body finders, they are odor hunters,” said Hadsell, who wasn’t involved in the search for Laundrie but has assisted in searches at the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park.

“They chase the odor of human remains, and the problem is that there are times when odor is not making the best presentation,” he continued.

Remains discovery in Brian Laundrie case may vindicate his parents, ex-prosecutor says

By Yaron Steinbuch

The assistance Brian Laundrie’s parents gave to investigators searching for their son “undercuts” speculation that they may have helped him evade authorities, a former federal prosecutor said in a new report.

Chris and Roberta Laundrie, who remained largely holed up in their North Port home in Florida amid the manhunt, had faced the ire of protesters and online sleuths that they were in on their son’s actions.

By Yaron Steinbuch

Kidnap survivor Elizabeth Smart, who was abducted from her Utah home by a rapist when she was 14 years old and held for nine months, said she is heartbroken about Gabby Petito’s death.

Smart, 33, who is now a victims’ rights activist, appeared Wednesday on the show “Red Table Talk,” where she shared details from her harrowing ordeal in 2002 and discussed the sensational case of the 22-year-old Long Island native, whose death has been ruled a homicide.

“In Gabby’s case in particular, I mean, I was alive, and I came home, and hers tragically has not ended that way,” Smart told Jada Pinkett Smith and her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, on the show.

Gabby Petito's mom rips statement by Laundrie family lawyer: 'His words are garbage'

By Post Staff

Gaby Petito’s mother, Nichole Schmidt, slammed a statement released by the Laundrie family lawyer that called her death "a tragedy."

In a statement Tuesday, Steven Bertolino, the Laundrie family’s attorney, called Petito’s death “a tragedy,” but said the autopsy results don’t change Laundrie’s status.

Schmidt told WFLA-TV on Tuesday that “his words are garbage.”

On Tuesday, Teton County Coroner Brent Blue revealed Petito was manually strangled during her ill-fated cross-country trip with Brian Laundrie — but he said he could not pinpoint exactly when she died.

This is what the internet thinks Brian Laundrie may look like now

By Yaron Steinbuch

It’s been a month since Brian Laundrie vanished into thin air and internet sleuths have been busy imagining what the fugitive – the sole person of interest in Gabby Petito’s death – might look like now.

Photoshopped pictures circulating online show the 23-year-old bald and bearded man sporting a decidedly more hirsute look – with long, unkempt hair and a much bushier beard, The Sun reported.

Laundrie, who has not been named a suspect in his girlfriend’s death, is the subject of a massive manhunt and multiple sightings across several states after he never returned from what he told his parents was a hike at the 25,000-acre Carlton Reserve in Florida.
