It’s not all that difficult to bring a gun on a plane — especially in Alaska.
Fort Lauderdale shooter Esteban Santiago didn’t set off any alarms when he told airport personnel he was taking a weapon onto his Delta flight, according to the police chief at Anchorage International Airport.
So many Alaskans hunt that it’s a fairly common event, the chief said.
Federal rules say unloaded firearms and ammunition may be carried as long as they’re checked in as baggage. The owner must “declare’’ the weapon when he checks in.
The weapons container must have hard sides and be locked. Cases with locks that can easily be picked are forbidden. Ammunition also can only be carried in checked baggage.
