SALT LAKE CITY — Officials say they rescued two Cedar Hills brothers near Timpooneke trailhead near Provo after they got stranded overnight on a hike.
Lasha Hartshorn tells KSL-TV that her sons texted her Monday night to tell her they had gotten lost and thought it would be best to stay put since it was getting dark and they had no flashlights.
Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon says the brothers made the right choice because they were found Tuesday morning in a slick area over a “1,200-foot, straight-down cliff drop-off.”
A search-and-rescue team used the brothers’ GPS in their cellphone to find them. It took the team two hours to reach the brothers, who were unharmed.
Searchers say the brothers had been underprepared for their hike.
