An inadvertent ‘butt dial’ to police led them to break up a house party full of minors in Maine and arresting one man who was so frustrated about the 911 call he pointed a gun at a juvenile, cops said.

Sgt. Luke Ernenwein of the York Police Department told the Portland Press Herald that the bizarre ordeal unfolded soon after a dispatcher heard yelling and arguing on the phone line, but no one responded during the call at about 12:46 a.m. Sunday.

Using cellphone towers, police narrowed down the approximate location of the call and were welcomed by homeowner Leighlon Anderson, 45, as they pulled into the driveway, with Anderson apologizing for the mistaken call. Anderson was then issued a summons for furnishing/allowing minors to consume alcohol, police said.

“The butt dial was the reason for our involvement,” Ernenwein said, adding that the caller probably pressed the 911 emergency button on a smartphone to mistakenly summon cops to the scene.

Police dispatchers routinely receive a lot of unintentional calls, many of which cannot be pursued, but the call early Sunday garnered additional response because it sounded like someone might have been in distress, Ernenwein told the newspaper.

Officers cleared the home after Anderson was issued a summons, but police received another call about an hour after the initial “butt dial,” prompting cops to return to the home after someone reported a man with a gun.

The man, later identified as Joseph David Coreau, 36, was aggravated about the initial 911 call and pointed a gun one of the juveniles before holing himself up in the attic, Seacoastonline.com reported.

Police evacuated the home and surrounded the residence while awaiting the arrival of the Southern Maine Special Response Team, but Coreau later surrendered without incident. He was charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon. Officers found three loaded guns in the attic where he was hiding, police said.

Coreau was taken to the York County Jail, where he was being held on $5,000 bail, the Portland Press Herald reports.

No injuries were reported.
