A California man stabbed a fellow resident of an assisted living facility “for no apparent reason” cutting a piece of the victim’s ear, local law enforcement said.
Raymond Cortinas, 63, during a “confrontation” before 9 a.m. Saturday in Camarillo stabbed another man repeatedly, causing the victim to suffer multiple body wounds and a “severed ear,” the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office announced.
The investigation found the unidentified victim was attacked “for no apparent reason,” the sheriff’s office said. Cortinas and the victim “are known to each other,” according to the statement.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital and treated for his injuries. His condition wasn’t immediately disclosed by reports or police.
Cortinas was arrested shortly after the gruesome incident and charged with attempted murder. He is being held in jail and is due in court Wednesday afternoon.
The attack took place at the 50 block of Oak Street in Camarillo, a 36-bed facility that houses elderly mentally disabled people, according to a real-estate listing and a police report.
