A California man was trapped in a storm drain for four days before he was finally discovered and rescued, authorities said.

A passerby was near the Main Place Mall in Santa Ana around 7:30 a.m. Monday when they heard someone cry out for help and called 911, the East Bay Times reported.

Firefighters hoisted the man out of the storm drain — and learned he’d been stuck there for four days, the outlet reported.

The man was conscious and alert, though it’s unclear how he ended up in the storm drain, news station KCBS reported.

“We don’t know how he got in there,” Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Thanh Nguyen told the outlet.

The man was brought to the hospital for treatment for minor injuries and he’s expected to recover, the outlets reported.
