Canada’s Green Party admitted it Photoshopped an image of its leader, swapping a disposable cup from her hands and replacing it with a reusable plastic cup with the party’s logo on it, reports said.
The party’s leader, Elizabeth May, told the Independent in a statement that the image doctoring was a “misstep by well-meaning” staff members.
A spokesperson for the the party said the Photoshop was done so the party’s logo could be displayed in the picture.
“My personal daily practice is to avoid single-use plastic items 100 per cent of the time. I never drink from plastic water bottles. I always carry my own reusable coffee cup. I carry my own bamboo utensils,” May said in a statement.
May launched the party’s 2019 election platform last week, pushing a progressive platform that focuses on ending the use of fossil fuels in the country.
“The climate crisis is the lens through which every policy envelope in the platform is viewed — the economy, health, education, foreign affairs, immigration, public safety, defence, social welfare, transportation,” she wrote in the outline of the platform.
