A local Californian Republican activist who participated in last week’s violent storming of the US Capitol has resigned from his positions in the California Republican Assembly.
Jorge Riley served as corresponding secretary for the State Board and president of the Sacramento Chapter, the grassroots political activist group confirmed.
Riley stepped down Thursday after photos and video were posted on his personal Facebook page showed him participating in the uprising.
In a video posted on Reddit, Riley discusses his involvement in the riot.
“We breached over there I think. We broke windows. We went into the door. We pushed our way in,” Riley said in the clip.
“We pushed our way into Nancy Pelosi’s office. We just kept going further and further,” he said of the fatal attack, which he later described as a “mostly peaceful physical takeover.”

The CRA denounced the “lawlessness” that took place on Jan. 6. in a statement to local media.
“The California Republican Assembly strongly condemns lawlessness. It is not an appropriate way to seek redress from our government and is inconsistent with the values of CRA,” the statement read, according to KXTV.
“We have come to learn that a member of CRA did take part in the events at the Capitol. CRA President Johnnie Morgan has demanded that the member, Jorge Riley of Sacramento, resign his membership in CRA immediately as it is important to have leaders whose actions exemplify positive engagement in the civil governance process,” the statement continued.
“If he does not resign, we will seek his expulsion from the organization.”
Riley’s forced ouster comes after West Virginia lawmaker Derrick Evans also resigned following his arrest for his participation in the riot.

The FBI is currently probing more than 30 suspects in connection with the murder of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick during the incident.
Officials have vowed that hundreds of people will eventually be charged for breaching the Capitol.
