An Indiana man convicted of raping and murdering a young woman in a 1998 cold case has been sentenced to 115 years in jail.

Police discovered the body of 26-year-old Kenya Edwards burned and bound with electrical cords at the wrists and ankles inside an eastern Indianapolis home in November 1998. An autopsy found she died of smoke inhalation and burns.

Nearly two decades later, in 2015, investigators matched DNA evidence from the crime scene to 61-year-old career criminal Johnny Jones.

Detectives identified similarities between Edwards’ murder and previous crimes Jones committed, leading to the sexual assault and murder charges.

Jones, who was already serving time for another conviction, was sentenced Friday by a Marion County judge.
