Soon, Americans could be able to cruise to Cuba.
Carnival Cruise Lines announced Tuesday that it received US government approval — from both the Treasury Department and the Department of Commerce — to start trips to Cuba next May.
The vacation package, which would include a seven-night tour of the island, still needs to be approved by the Cuban government before it’s fully greenlighted.
“All of our research suggests there is huge pent-up demand for the Cuba experience,” Carnival Corp. CEO Arnold Donald told USA Today.
A 710-passenger ship called the Adonia would handle the trip from Miami.
Fares would start at $2,990 per person, more than triple the cost of a similar weeklong stay in the Caribbean.
