Animal foes became birds of a feather when a raging California wildfire forced them to snuggle up for safety.
A scalded pet cat and chicken struck up an unlikely friendship — nestling together to shield each other from heat — as flames ripped through farmland near Redding last weekend, according to the Grass Valley Fire Department.
The anonymous duo, both with burns from the blaze, were rescued by firefighters who carried them away in the same crate, the department said in a statement.
“They found a cat and a chicken huddled together for safety and support,” the department said.
The lucky critters are being cared for by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and are expected to fully recover.
A wildfire torched more than 1,000 homes in the area earlier this week, claiming six lives and forcing dozens of evacuations in the area. Days later, more flames broke out just north of San Francisco.
The blaze is the sixth most destructive in California history.
