Catastrophic floodwaters from two breached dams in Michigan have threatened a massive Dow chemical plant — forcing the complex to shut, the company said.

Dow said Wednesday that its sprawling headquarters in Midland was closed as a surge of water reached its offices on the banks of the Tittabawassee River.

“Dow’s local emergency operations center is fully activated and is implementing its flood preparedness plan,” the company said in a statement.

“All operating units on site have been safely shutdown, except for facilities needed for safely managing chemical containment, and all railcars are secured.”

The chemical company said the rising water had begun “commingling” around 10 a.m. ET with the property’s containment ponds used to combat the floods.

“We immediately partnered with the US Coast Guard to activate emergency plans, the company said. “Only essential staff are onsite to monitor and manage the situation with no reported employee injuries.”

Several days of rainfall and rising water forced the evacuation Tuesday of about 10,000 people in Midland County.
