The employee strikes back!
A Star Wars fan who was canned from his job at a Florida vending company got bizarre payback by dressing up as Chewbacca and swiping cash from two machines he once filled, according to a report Tuesday.
Darren Pickrem, 56, of Palm Harbor channeled his inner movie villain when he strapped on the furry disguise and allegedly stole $623 from the food machines in Largo on Sunday, the Smoking Gun reported.
During the heist, Pickrem accidentally allowed cameras to get a shot of his face as he entered the building, the crime website reported.
A witness identified Pickrem — who was fired from Florida Fresh Vending two months ago — from the tape, according to the site.
She knew it was him because “she saw him on a daily basis for two years of his employment,” according to the complaint.
Pickrem was tossed in county jail and later released on a $2,000 bond. He has been arrested for past (apparently non-costumed) crimes including disorderly conduct and indecent exposure, according to the Smoking Gun.
It’s unclear why he chose to dress up as the famously wise Wookie — and not Darth Vader — for the sinister break-in.
“The defendant was observed on video entering the above location in a ‘Chewbacca’ costume,” his criminal complaint states.
