Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced Tuesday that she tested positive for COVID-19.
Lightfoot, 59, who is fully vaccinated and received a booster shot, revealed in a tweet that she is experiencing “cold-like symptoms” but otherwise feels fine.
The mayor, a Democrat, said she will continue to work while isolated at home.
Lightfoot’s diagnosis came as the Windy City on Tuesday reported 4,793 new coronavirus cases – down from last week’s average case count of 5,189, NBC Chicago reported.
Meanwhile, West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice on Tuesday night also tested positive for the coronavirus after experiencing “moderate symptoms,” throughout the day, his office said in a statement.
The 70-year-old Republican woke up with congestion and a cough, before developing a high fever, and his blood pressure and heart rates became “extremely elevated,” the statement said.
Lori Lightfoot’s diagnosis came amid Chicago’s reported 4,793 new coronavirus cases – down from last week’s average case count. APJustice is similarly fully vaccinated and boosted. He is undergoing a monoclonal antibody treatment at the recommendation of his physicians, his office said.
