Better watch where you’re walking.
Chicago is attempting to pass a law that would fine pedestrians up to $500 for “distracted walking” if they are caught staring at their cellphones in the crosswalks.
Politicians in the Windy City want to crackdown on the poor habit of people being stuck on their screens instead of watching for passing cars, according to The Chicago Tribune.
The proposed ordinance states that: “No person shall cross a street or highway while using a mobile electronic device in a manner that averts their visual attention to that device or that device’s activity.”
The first offense would cost a person $90, while repeated offense for distracted walking could rise to $500.
