HARTFORD, Conn. — A woman blinded and disfigured by a friend’s 200-pound pet chimpanzee has no legal standing to sue Connecticut for $150 million just because it allowed private ownership of chimps, the state ruled yesterday.
Connecticut is immune to suits not approved by state Claims Commissioner J. Paul Vance Jr., who dismissed Charla Nash’s claim.
Nash, 59, also lost both hands in the 2009 Stamford attack and later underwent a face transplant.
She reached a $4 million settlement last year with the estate of chimp owner Sandra Herold.
