New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has his eyes on a high-powered new gig — chairman of the Republican National Committee, a new report said Thursday.

Christie told Donald Trump’s presidential transition team Thursday morning that he was interested in the post, Politico reported, citing sources.

Christie and Trump have been pals for years, but the president-elect and his team has soured on him recently, and canned him as head of the transition team last month.

The lame duck New Jersey governor, who will be out of a job come January 2018, was once considered a lock for a top job with Team Trump, but his prospects have dimmed.

A rep for Trump didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.
