Neither the White House nor congressional Republicans have reached out to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to try to hammer out a spending bill that would prevent a government shutdown before the Dec. 21 deadline, sources told The Post on Friday.

The GOP, said one source, believes President Trump backed himself into a corner when he declared to Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi Tuesday that he would be “proud” to shut down the federal government if he didn’t get $5 billion for his border wall.

Despite the lack of communication, White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said earlier Friday that Trump would be “happy” to work with Schumer and Pelosi, the likely future House speaker.
