Vanquished Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is empowering — and also repelling — women by going makeup-free for her first speech since conceding the presidential election to Donald Trump.

Some fans of the former secretary of state cheered her decision to forgo her beauty prep at the Children’s Defense Fund in Washington, DC, Wednesday night.

Love that @HillaryClinton decided not to wear makeup in her first speech off the campaign. She's clearly had it with the #patriarchy 💪🏼🤘🏼 pic.twitter.com/AyA91WG0VG

Other women tweeted that her makeup-free look made her appear “strong as ever.”

Watching Hillary Clinton- makeup free yet elegant- speaking at the CDF broke my heart & resolved my resistance to Trump's bigotry & hate.

But others said normcore Clinton isn’t a cute look.

Hillary Clinton looks like her entire glam squad left her. Makeup gone, the feathers in her hair. She just woke up from a nightmare. Truly.

During her speech, Clinton admitted that the grueling election had taken a toll on her.

“I will admit, coming here tonight wasn’t the easiest thing for me,” she told the audience. “There have been a few times this past week when all I wanted to do is just curl up with a good book or our dogs and never leave the house again.”

But she said thinking about things like the children who were being honored Wednesday keeps her motivated.

“We have work to do, and for the sake of our children and our families and our country, I ask you to stay engaged, stay engaged on every level,” Clinton said. “We need you. America needs you, your energy, your ambition, your talent. That is how we get through this.”
