A Connecticut high school girls’ soccer coach accused of exposing himself on two occasions says the whole thing may have been just an accident — because he was driving with his pants unbuttoned, police said.

David Sharpe, 29, was charged Saturday after a 16-year-old girl told police in Fairfield that the creep flashed her before starting to masturbate in front of her on Oct. 23. Sharpe is also suspected of doing the same thing to a 20-year-old woman a month earlier in Norwalk, but was not yet charged in connection with the incident, the Connecticut Post reports.

However, Sharpe said the entire ordeal could be blamed on his habit of driving with his pants unbuttoned.

“I’m heavier than I should be right now,” Sharpe told officers. “I do drive with my jeans unbuttoned a lot because my pants don’t fit me. It’s entirely possible I was driving in those areas with my pants unbuttoned. Could I have been exposed? It’s a big possible. Sure, all of it’s possible.”

Sharpe, who had worked as the girls’ soccer coach at Staples High School in Westport, resigned from his post after being interviewed by officers, police said.

The teen victim told police she was walking by herself at Old Post Road and South Benson Road when a black Ford Mustang pulled up and stopped just ahead of her, according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by the newspaper.

The girl walked by and saw the driver, whom she later identified as Sharpe, masturbating as she looked into the car. The alleged pervert kept his eyes on the girl as he continued to touch himself, according to the affidavit.

The girl told her mother, who called police to report the incident. A cop later spotted the Mustang nearby, but lost track of it before being able to pull it over. However, the officer did get the Mustang’s license plate, which brought them to Sharpe, according to the affidavit.

In the second alleged incident, a 20-year-old woman said she was walking in Norwalk on Sept. 26 when a man in a black Ford Mustang pulled up and began masturbating as he stared at her, the affidavit states.

Sharpe, who was scheduled to be arraigned on public indecency and breach of peace charges in Bridgeport on Dec. 13, did not immediately return a call seeking comment Friday.
