PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Rhode Island officials say the US Coast Guard is getting involved in the investigation into a mysterious blast on a beach that sent a woman flying into a nearby jetty.
The cause is still under investigation, but police have ruled out an explosive device or a seismic event.
Department of Environmental Management spokeswoman Rayna Maguire says the Coast Guard will come to Salty Brine beach in Narragansett on Tuesday to look at a power cable it owns that runs under the sand.
A local utility has said it doesn’t believe the cable was related to the blast.
Maguire says the cable used to power a navigational light at the end of the jetty but is no longer live.
The US Army Corps of Engineers owns the jetty and will inspect it.
