The House approved a multibillion dollar disaster aid bill on Monday, sending the measure to President Trump’s desk after months of fighting over the bill by the president and congressional Democrats.
Lawmakers passed the $19.1 billion spending bill by a 354-58 vote, with 130 Republicans joining every Democrat in voting in favor of the measure. The bill would send the funds to states and territories struck by floods, wildfires, hurricanes and other natural disasters.
The bill was tied up in Congress for months as Trump and congressional Democrats fought over aid to Puerto Rico, which was ravaged by Hurricane Maria in 2017.
Internal fights between Republicans and Trump’s call for funding to care for Central American migrants being held at the southern US border further delayed the bill.
As the infighting by lawmakers continued, natural disasters kept hitting the US.
The Senate passed the bill by 85-8 in late May, and Trump is expected to sign the bill into law when it’s delivered to him.
