A convicted sex offender in Alabama tried to entice an 8-year-old girl before chasing her, sparking a multi-agency manhunt for the creep, police said.

The search for Travis Terrell McIntosh, 35, started early Tuesday when a mother called cops in Tuscaloosa to report that a man told her daughter to “come here” and then began chasing her from a bus stop at Forrester Gardens Apartments, police said in a statement.

The girl’s mother ran outside upon hearing her daughter scream, sending the suspect, later identified as McIntosh, into a wooded area nearby, police said.

Officers who arrived minutes later then called for backup when hearing what may have been gunfire or firecrackers, prompting 27 Tuscaloosa cops to respond to the area, along with others from Northport, the University of Alabama, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, department officials said.

Holy Spirit Catholic High School, which serves students from pre-K through 12th grade, was briefly locked down during the manhunt, police said.

Officers found McIntosh in the backyard of a home during a search of surrounding retail and residential areas nearly 90 minutes after the girl’s mother called cops, police said.

Investigators were still trying to determine Tuesday what caused the gunfire-like sound during the early stages of the manhunt for McIntosh, who was convicted in 2015 of second-degree rape, according to Alabama’s sex offender registry.

McIntosh’s last known address, according to the database, was in Sweet Water, some 100 miles south of Tuscaloosa.

McIntosh, who was charged with failure to register as a sex offender and two counts of attempting to elude police officers, remained held Wednesday at the Tuscaloosa County Jail on $15,000 bond, online records show.

Additional charges are expected in the ongoing investigation, police said.

“We’re so proud of the daughter for being brave and for doing exactly what she should have!” department officials said in a statement.
