Defiant Congressman John Conyers said Wednesday he wouldn’t be stepping down, despite allegations he used taxpayer money to pay off a sexual harassment complaint.
The longest serving member of the House is under fire for allegedly harassing at least two female staffers — including one who got a secret settlement with public funds, according to a BuzzFeed report this week.
“Congressman Conyers has no plans to resign,” according to statement from his office. “He intends to cooperate with the House should they determine further investigation is warranted.”
The House ethics committee has launched a formal probe of Conyers, an 88-year-old Michigan Democrat.
