Officials identified the body of a woman found dead in the trunk of a car after the driver reportedly killed himself at a traffic stop.
Police said the body of 28-year-old Maddilyn Burgess of Massachusetts was inside the vehicle Thursday afternoon when 34-year-old Gyrth Rutan was pulled over in Gardiner, Maine, according to MassLive.
Rutan got out of his Subaru and fatally shot himself after a state trooper stopped him for erratic driving, officials said.
Authorities said that it appeared that Burgess was murdered. A medical examiner determined that she died of blunt force injuries.
Police “discovered evidence of a crime scene” Friday at Rutan’s residence in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, according to news station WBZ-TV.
The investigation into the suspected murder-suicide is ongoing.
