Authorities say they located the missing Michigan mom whose newborn daughter was found dead in her car.
Ashley Shade, 35, was arrested Wednesday in Lansing nearly a week after the 6-day-old baby’s body was discovered in her Toyota Camry, the Lansing State Journal reported. The cause of death has not been determined.
Both the newborn and mother were reported missing March 18 from their apartment complex.
The child’s father told police the infant was born in the bathroom. He also said Shade called him earlier in the week claiming the “baby was not breathing,” according to police.
Officers were called to the home on a report of an unresponsive infant, but when they arrived Shade and baby were gone.
The child was discovered the next day in the car without any signs of injury, authorities said.
The missing mom was arrested late Wednesday on several outstanding warrants including for assault and battery charges. She was booked into Lansing Police detention center on $11,000 bond.
Shade’s parental rights were revoked by the state for her six other children, the newspaper reported.
