Three people were killed and a fourth was injured in a shooting near Colorado State University early Thursday.

One of the dead is a female student, but the other three victims do not appear to have a connection to the school, officials said. The gunman was also one of the dead, according to The Coloradoan.

The shooting started around 2 a.m. at an apartment complex at 720 City Park, Fort Collins Police Department spokesman Matt Johnson said in a video statement posted to Twitter.

Campus police sent out a series of tweets around 3 a.m. telling people “Stay inside, keep doors locked” and that they were searching for a 20-year-old man with sandy blonde hair wearing a green hoodie, according to The Denver Post.

But the school’s cops gave the all-clear a little more than an hour later, tweeting there was “no ongoing threat,” at 4:35 a.m.

The Larimer County Coroner’s Office will release the victims’ names “at a later time,” police said.

The complex is one block from Colorado State and directly across the street from a student housing complex.
